I’ve only just begun to get back to writing after a month full of exams, work, road-trips, graduation and a week long visit to Sydney. In trying to catch up on some of my posts before my next little adventure, I thought that I would start off with a food post about the first place that we ate at in Sydney – Culture Bean Cafe.
It wasn’t our plan to visit this place initially seeing as it was a bit out of the way in Kogarah. After shortly arriving in Sydney however, we realised that there were only a number of places that would still be open by the time that we make our way there for lunch. In saying so, we decided to brave the humidity on the very first day for some refreshing açai bowls at this cute local cafe.
After grabbing an outside table, we were surprised to find after asking around that this place didn’t really have a menu. Rather, it was just what was written on the wall behind the cashier. Nonetheless I was keen to try the açai bowl here as 1) it was 30 degrees outside and 2) I wanted Tony to have his first taste of an açai smoothie hehe.
We didn’t want to get two açai bowls so we decided to get the granola as well. Aesthetically, you can see how pretty it was. However the fruits on top made it hard to dig around in order to get a good spoonful of granola and yoghurt. I don’t think we finished this between the both of us as there was just too much yoghurt and it just made the entire jar really tart overall. Also, $15 is quite overpriced for this dish..
Açai Bowl $15.0
I absolutely loved the presentation and detail of the açai bowl – with each blueberry carefully placed on top of its very own slice of banana! The coconut chips added a nice crunchy surprise, along with the chia seeds. The açai puree was nice and thicker than previously expected, allowing the fruit to sit on top without sinking in. Given the heat, the refreshing nature of this bowl probably made the trip out here worth it.
In addition, these dishes had left me feeling healthy AF after the meal. Which was good seeing as the rest of our meals in Sydney were most likely going to be on the cheekier side!
Banana Milkshake $7.0
We had also ordered a banana milkshake to share. Usually I am not a big fan of banana-flavoured drinks but I had actually quite enjoyed the one here at Culture Bean!
Although it was really good, I’m not sure if I would venture all the way out here again just for the açai bowls. If anyone knows of any other açai bowls worth trying in Sydney, do let me know 😛 So far, Culture Bean’s is definitely up there on the list but it has not surpassed that of Melbourne’s quality yet in my opinion.
Limited menu items, but it doesn’t get any healthier than this!
