Internationally famed ice-creamery Milkcow from South Korea has finally landed in Australia in the form of a pop-up store at The Strand in Melbourne. But be quick, they’re only here until the 31st May!
After seeing countless pictures of this soft serve brand across Instagram, I couldn’t wait any longer to try out their ice cream. We visited the store two days before their official opening on the 1st April — well before the hype started to build and the crowds started to pile up.
The store only had a few customers when we arrived, probably because not many people had heard about the place yet. This gave us time to chat to the staff who were nice enough to provide us a brief introduction to their brand, explain the different options on the menu and where they source their products from.
Milky Cube $7.5
One of Milkcow’s signature flavours is this soft serve (locally sourced from within Australia) with honey swirl and a honeycomb wedge. Tony actually ordered this for me by mistake instead of the Milky Honey which was just the soft serve with honey swirl, but it was fine because I had wanted to try this anyway 😛
The soft serve itself was one of the creamiest that I have ever tasted. I felt like I would have been perfectly content with having just that all on its own! The honey swirl added a nice sticky sweetness but sadly, I didn’t enjoy the honeycomb wedge as much as I thought. It was overly sweet, was bound to get stuck in your teeth, and the ratio of ice cream to honeycomb wasn’t quite right. I really needed a glass (or two) of water by the end.
Black Pearl $7.0
Tony ordered the Black Pearl which came with cocoa dusted almonds, a drizzle of Italian chocolate hazelnut syrup and a sprinkle of sea salt over the top. I don’t recall tasting any of the sea salt but the almonds at the bottom were a nice surprise. Overall it tasted just like a normal sundae to me though.
Although the prices here were a bit steep given the small serving size and the different flavours ranging from $5-8, I was glad to have finally satisfied my Milkcow curiosity without the need to fly overseas. However, I’m not sure if I’d return any time soon to try the other flavours though.
The softest and creamiest soft serve I’ve had in Melbourne!
